GH: General Hospital vs The Rev*lution

Posted by ghhshirley on Saturday, March 17, 2012,
Rumorville:  Word is that ABC has quietly been informing their affiliates of the pending cancellation of The Rev*lution.

Meanwhile, General Hospital has increased its audience in comparison to The Rev*lution, in all categories. This includes an increase of over 900,000 viewers, a 66% gain in the most desirable demographics of Women aged 18-34, and a 100% gain in Women 18-49, during the week of March 5th-9th, comparatively. This puts GH in a much better position for possibly moving to the t...

GH: Christmas Goodies

Posted by ghhshirley on Thursday, November 17, 2011,
Rumorville:  Expect a Christmas Party that will take several episodes to get through.

Dante, Lulu, Robin, Patrick, Johnny, Spinelli, Maxie, Matt, Jason, Sam will be among those in attendance.  Expect Liz to make an appearance as well.

Unfortunately, it appears that Lulu will be taking on way too much holiday cheer in the form of booze during the party.
Ethan has his fair share too.

Spinelli continues to patiently court Maxie...perhaps waiting for her to tire herself out (with Matt)?

Soaps Future on the Web

Posted by ghhshirley on Friday, July 22, 2011, In : General Hospital Rumors
Rumorville:  The gossip mill has it that if/when ABC cancels GH in 2012 (as many are predicting to be inevitable despite ABC claims to the otherwise), Prospect Park has rights to broadcast the show for 10 years, just as in the case of AMC and OLTL.

On a related note, apparently Prospect Park has been slow to begin negotiations with most of the AMC cast, fueling rumors that AMC's start on the web will be delayed until January of 2012.  Original reports had AMC slated to premiere on the web in ...

ABC Refusing to Sell?

Posted by ghhshirley on Friday, June 24, 2011, In : General Hospital Rumors
Rumorville:  Rumors are growing stronger that ABC has received offers from other networks to purchase All My Children and One Life To Live and has declined to sell both shows. This, despite their previous, public, assurances that they would be more than willing to sell the two productions. If true, the question is why?

Some say it is because they don't want egg on their face should these shows go on to success elsewhere.  Others say that they want to keep the shows (OLTL in particular) ...

Couric's Deal Near Competion

Posted by ghhshirley on Saturday, May 21, 2011,
Lending further credence to what we have heard about Katie Couric being headed for Oprah's syndicated affiliate slot, as opposed to General Hospital's time slot, the LA Times reports that, Disney Chief Executive Robert A. Iger has been "very involved" in the deal and has been particularly interested in bringing Couric to ABC, in part, to fill the programming void that will be created by the departure of the queen of daytime TV, Oprah Winfrey. Disney's ABC-owned stations carry The Oprah Winfre...

Nancy Lee Grahn is full of optimism regarding the head writer switch. Here is a composite of her tweets, with minor editing for clarity:

"As soon as the new stuff kicks in it's going to be much better, hopefully there will be something for everyone. I think it'll be great. You've no idea how much faith I have in this new shift at GH. Come aboard. We've aborted North Atlantic, gotten off the Titanic, and aboard the Love Boat."

GH: Guza's Reaction

Posted by ghhshirley on Friday, May 20, 2011, In : General Hospital Rumors
Rumorville:  Word is that it was General Hospital's Executive Producer, Jill Farren Phelps, rather that ABC Daytime head Brian Frons, who was the bearer of the bad news to Guza.  Supposedly, Guza stormed out of the ABC offices right then and there.  This may be where the, "effective immediately", came from in the ABC press release regarding the change in head writers, as well as the lack of public thank you's for Guza's contributions to the show.

Rumorville:  As we've previously reported (see two related articles below) , Couric is close to signing a $20 million deal with ABC for a daytime talk show as well as a significant role at ABC News.  Now, TMZ is speculating that Couric's one-hour syndicated show could possibly premiere in September 2012 in General Hospital's current time slot.  OR...that Couric could replace one of ABC's upcoming lifestyle shows, should either fail. Both shows are replacing ABC's axed soaps, AMC and OLTL.

Rumorville:  Despite previous denials by Brian Frons that he has been in talks with Katie Couric, insiders are saying that she now appears headed for a deal at ABC.

ABC has made a big push for a Couric talk show, sweetening the pot. According to TVGuide, one person close to Couric described the ABC move as "a distinct possibility."  An ABC spokesperson refused to comment.

ABC's last minute surge to get Couric may be driven by the loss of The Oprah Winfrey Show on its owned and operated TV stati...

Posted by ghhshirley on Monday, April 25, 2011, In : General Hospital Rumors
Rumorville:  Apparently GH is casting the recurring role of Javier, who is hispanic, early 30's, sexy intense, dangerous and charasmatic.  (It is said to be short term, 2 to 4 weeks, at least for now.)

In other news, rumors continue that General Hospital may be on the chopping block for the fall of 2012. The only thing that seems certain is that a decision will be made either way by February of 2012.  Meanwhile, GH is facing some deep budget cuts.

Rumorville:  Wishful thinking...or not?  According to the NY Post:

"ABC Daytime honcho Brian Frons is in hot water over the cancellation of  One Life to Live and All My Children, sources said. After Hoover announced it will yank ads over the soap axing, other advertisers like Hershey’s and L’Oreal are getting heat from consumers to pull ads. AMC & OLTL Be Canceled?

Posted by ghhshirley on Friday, April 1, 2011, In : General Hospital Rumors
Rumorville:  The buzz is that ABC is not just planning to cancel All My Children in the coming days but will very likely cancel One Life to Live, as well.  According to TVGuide, word is that ABC Daytime chief Brian Frons has a talk show and reality show lined up for fall — both of them much cheaper to produce than soaps — and he needs to clear the schedule. More disturbing, insiders say Frons has been extremely cavalier about all this, showing no signs of sorrow or regret about a dra...
