ABC Refusing to Sell?

Posted by ghhshirley on Friday, June 24, 2011 Under: General Hospital Rumors
Rumorville:  Rumors are growing stronger that ABC has received offers from other networks to purchase All My Children and One Life To Live and has declined to sell both shows. This, despite their previous, public, assurances that they would be more than willing to sell the two productions. If true, the question is why?

Some say it is because they don't want egg on their face should these shows go on to success elsewhere.  Others say that they want to keep the shows (OLTL in particular) in their back pocket in case the replacement shows fail.  The former explanation is the more likely of the two.

There is also speculation circulating the less likely scenario that suggests that ABC Daytime head, Brian Frons, may be used as the proverbial scapegoat and could possibly be on his way out this fall.

No matter what, soap fans need to keep their eyes on the goal. ABC cannot brush this off if we continue the media pressure and prove there is a demand for the soap genre. The only way to do that is with our individual voices, together, taking part in in coordinated effort.  If you haven't sent in your campaign coupon yet, NOW is the time!
