Conservative Economist Bruce Bartlett wrote "the bible" for the Reagan Revolution, worked on domestic policy for the Reagan White House and served as a top treasury official under the first President Bush. Bartlett argues that right-wing tax policies -- pushed in part by Grover Norquist and Tea Party activists -- are destroying the country's economic foundation.
If the video clip below doesn't illustrate just how out of touch Mitt Romney is with the anger and everyday struggles of middle class Americans and the working poor, I don't know what would. TheTwoHundredMillionDollarMan aka MrOnePercent just doesn't get it.
The fact is, that the 1% profited off of the global financial collapse and recession brought on by their own irresponsibility-- with the help of the deregulation championed by the Republicans over the last thirty years-- handsomely. In ... Continue reading ...
"The Obama Justice Department hasn't tried a single Wall Street executive in a criminal court. Against a handful, it decided to let the S.E.C. bring civil charges of fraud, which are easier to prove. So if defendants' wrists are merely being slapped by the S.E.C. instead of cuffed by the Justice Department, Obama has only his appointees to blame.
For three important reasons, the President needs to explain why the Justice Department has filed away its investigations of big banks and Wall Street... Continue reading ...
As part of TIME Magazine's special issue on TIME's Person of the Year 2011: The Protester
, they produced this video centering on how an activist/journalist's (Tim Poole) live video stream from New York City's
Zuccotti Park garnered mainstream attention and helped galvanize a
movement. Tim has gone beyond Zuccotti and has traveled up and down the east coast and to California in the last several weeks to cover the other Occupy protests and to help others set up similar livestreams.
Thank the Occupy Movement. OccupyLA put the issue of Corporate Personhood on the Los Angeles City Council Meeting agenda. With a unanimous vote, we are one small step towards overturning Citizens United, regaining our Democracy, and a government for and by the people.
On the evening of November 17th, tens of thousands of Occupy Wall Street protesters marched throughout New York City, many making their way on to the Brooklyn Bridge, carrying LED candles and chanting. As Occupiers took the bridge in a seemingly endless sea of people, words in light appeared projected on the iconic Verizon Building nearby.
A few hours later, creater Mark Read, who organized the "bat-signal" project, told Boing Boingwhy and how he did this, and what technology he used:
As a Thanksgiving deadline nears for action by the powerful congressional committee on deficit reduction, U.S. Senator from Vermont (Independent) Bernie Sanders sounded an alarm over reports that Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid may be cut. "The American people have been very clear. They understand how important Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid are to the well-being of tens of millions of our people and they do not want to see these ... Continue reading ...

Thus far today, over 175 people have been arrested and several injuries have been reported. Bloodied protesters were seen being led away by police. Thousands of Occupy Wall Street protesters streamed back into Zuccotti Park late Tuesday, November 15th, less than 24 hours after police forcibly removed them from their camp. Among the more than 200 people arrested earlier that morning was Ydanis Rodriguez, a New York City Council member. He was there advocating for his constituents, as were other council members at the time of the raid. City Council Member Jumaane Williams tweeted that his fellow city council member, Rodriguez, was hit by ... Continue reading ...
Captain Raymond Lewis, a retired Police Captain from
Philadelphia, took his chances to come out in full uniform in a show of support for the Occupy Movement at the re-occupied Zuccotti
Park. This is just a tiny snippet of the on-site interview which I watched live on Ustream on the night of November
15th. The entire time he was there, it was obvious that the NYPD were trying to figure out what to do about him.
In fact, at one point, a plainsclothes detective came up and challenged ... Continue reading ...
